A Writer’s Life
I live to write
I developed a love of poetry and children’s books by reading aloud to my children and grandchildren. (Got to admit, Dr. Seuss is still my favorite.)
Being proud of my Cajun heritage, I thought Cajun heroes were lacking from the tall tale genre, so I created my own. The story of Threadbare Lazaire was published in Cricket in April 2003.
I am fortunate to know Betty Kwan Chinn and have watched her outreach to the homeless grow and receive local, state and national recognition. I wrote an award-winning feature article about Betty’s life that appeared in the June 2010 issue of U.S. Catholic.
I worked three years as a freelance journalist for two local papers, the Humboldt Beacon and the Times-Standard. During that time, I wrote on assignment, as well as two series of articles, one introducing the work of local authors and another, reporting on monthly musical performances sponsored by the Fortuna Concert Series.
My poetry springs from a love of the natural world. My poems have appeared in the Northcoast Journal, the Toyon (Humboldt State’s literary journal), the Jefferson Journal, Wild Humboldt, and a poetry anthology entitled To Troy and Back.
I have been a member of the Eureka Writers’ Group sponsored by the Ink People for fifteen years.
